How to Use AI to Prep for Your Next Interview!

How to Use AI to Prep for Your Next Interview

As an Executive Assistant, your superpower is being three (or ten) steps ahead. You anticipate needs, you see the roadblocks before they happen, and you bring order to chaos. But when it comes to your own job hunt, are you using every tool at your disposal to stay ahead of the curve?

We know the fear of AI replacing administrative roles is a hot topic, but here is the reality: AI isn’t going to replace elite EAs. EAs who use AI will replace EAs who don't! When preparing for your next big interview, generative AI (like ChatGPT or Gemini) should be your ultimate research assistant.

Here is how to use it to enhance your interview prep strategy that will give you the ultimate competitive edge!

1. Generate Your Own "Candidate Prep Doc" Don't spend hours endlessly scrolling through confusing company websites. Instead, tell your AI to act as a recruiter and build you a cheat sheet.

  • The Prompt to Use: "Act as an expert executive recruiter. Create a one-page prep document for a candidate interviewing at [Company Name] for [Position Title] role. Include a brief pitch of what they do, their core values, recent news from the last six months, and the background of their CEO/executive team."

  • Why It Works: You get a highly scannable, targeted overview of exactly what matters, saving you hours of research.

2. Anticipate the Unasked Questions You already know they are going to ask you about your calendar management skills. But what are the hidden questions specific to this exact role?

  • The Prompt to Use: "Here is my resume, and here is the job description for the EA role at [Company]. Based on this specific company and my background, what are the top 5 most challenging behavioral or situational questions the hiring manager is likely to ask me? Provide suggestions on how I should answer."

  • Why It Works: It pressure-tests your experience against the actual job description, forcing you to think about your weaknesses before you even walk into the room.

3. The Vibe Check (Decoding Company Culture) It’s not just about what you say; it’s about how you say it. Are you interviewing at a buttoned-up private equity firm or a disruptor tech startup?

  • The Prompt to Use: "Analyze the tone of [Company Name]’s recent press releases and website copy. Are they formal, casual, highly technical, or mission-driven? Give me three keywords that describe their brand voice."

  • Why It Works: It allows you to subtly mirror their energy and vocabulary during your interview, making you feel like a cultural match from minute one.

4. Flip the Script: Formulate Elite Questions for Them The best EAs interview the company right back. Ditch the generic "What does a typical day look like?" question.

  • The Prompt to Use: "Based on [Company Name]'s recent Series B funding and launch of their new product, what are three strategic, high-level questions an incoming Executive Assistant should ask the CEO during an interview?"

  • Why It Works: Thoughtfully prepared questions demonstrate both your interest level and strong research skills.

AI can give you the data, pertinent information, and the talking points. But the magic happens when you pair that data with your intuition, your emotional intelligence, and your expertise. AI can write the prep doc, but you have to own the room.
