Lights, Camera… Action- the Video Interview…

This is definitely not my personal favorite avenue for interviews.  Call me old school, but it is so awkward- tech glitches, sound time delays, unflattering angles - but this interview trend is pretty hot right now and becoming more and more popular!

How to prepare you ask? Well, we’ll tell you…time to ace this video Interview chief:

1)     Tech Ready. Whether it is Skype, Google Hangout, FaceTime, Zoom etc.. make sure to try out the technology prior if you are unfamiliar with it! If you are nervous- practice using it with a friend prior to go time.  Make sure you have a strong internet connection to prevent time delays. (Always provide your digits as well so there is a backup plan if anything should go wrong.)

2)    Make eye contact. It is so temping to look at the monitor or your own image to see how you are doing, but try to remain looking at the camera. Demonstrate your nonverbal active listening skills- all the smiles, nods, and good posture – you get the idea.

3)    Dress the part. You know they can see you right? Bring on your interview A-game outfit son. Click HERE for more on this point!

4)    Do your homework.  Research as much as if it was an in-person interview- this is no more casual or less important than a face to face meeting- research the company, your interviewer, the job. (Pro-tip- you can have notes with you of the things you don’t want to forget to ask or go over.)

5)    Note your surroundings- make sure you are in a clean room, with good light and somewhere you will not be distracted so that you can talk freely. (I.e. no coffee shops, or windy outdoor spaces.) Make sure your phone is off and there are no dogs, kids, music, jackhammers etc. in the background. It is time to focus and rock this.

BURKE UP! You Nailed it right? We are so proud!

P.S.- How cute is our Meg?! (Pictured here- more than video interview ready)
